MVYRADIO is accepting applications for interns. We offer students hands-on broadcast radio experience in our Vineyard studios with concentrations of their choice, including production, programming, news, and sales.

This is an unpaid internship. The start and end date of the internship, and the hours-per-week can be tailored to the individual intern.

BROADCAST ENGINEERING CONTRACTOR


MVYRADIO is an independent, nonprofit FM and streaming music radio station, located on the
island of Martha’s Vineyard.

We are seeking an individual to handle all engineering duties related to the broadcast, including
monitoring and maintenance of the studio equipment and automation system, FM transmitter and
airchain, IP-based STL connections to the tower sites, onsite stream encoding. The contract
engineer will monitor and coordinate maintenance tasks for facility infrastructure such as backup
generators and equipment room HVAC. This individual will coordinate with the station’s IT
staffers/contractors who resolve minor IT issues.

The position on-site work and remote work each month, plus emergency services as needed.
Some travel expenses can be reimbursed. You will have access to an on-Island station vehicle.

We require the individual to be insured. Contractor will invoice MVYRADIO on a monthly
basis.

The position will begin on April 1, 2023. Our current engineer is under contract with us until
June 30, 2023. This 3-month overlap will ensure a smooth hand off of knowledge and duties.

Some more detailed information:

FM Transmitter

Our transmitter site is on Carroll’s Way in Vineyard Haven. You will provide all technical
support related to the Nautel GV10 FM transmitter and Nautel VS1 back up transmitter,
including monitoring operations and readings, basic and preventative maintenance of transmitter,
processors, etc. The overall signal chain is managed by a Burk Arc Plus IP-based control system.
Coordinating service with South Shore Generator (for the generator), Comcast (as site landlord
and as ISP), American Tower (tower landlord) when necessary. This site is also home to
transmitters for WCAI (WGBH) and WBUR, and occasionally coordinating with those engineers
is necessary.

Studio Site

The studio site is on State Road in West Tisbury. You will provide all technical support related
to broadcast equipment, including studio hardware and software, and engineering infrastructure
related to broadcasting and streaming. Our (remote) webmaster can handle general streaming
troubleshooting. Our facilities were built in 2021 and most equipment is new.

Both the engineer and the webmaster will provide support for staffers who need remote access.
This includes access to the broadcasting software (Enco/DAD), traffic computer (Visual Traffic),
music scheduler (RCS Selector v12) and streaming computers. Most remote work is done via
Remote PC.

The engineer will review current cyber security measures and make technical adjustments as
necessary. The station has a current multi-site VPN in place for secure connections between
facilities.

Newport Transmitter

Our FM signal is rebroadcast on 96.5FM a low power transmitter in Newport, RI, owned by
Isotrope Engineering. Our contractor will coordinate with their engineer for necessary
maintenance, plus have the ability to remotely monitor the signal. Occasionally, will have to
travel to Newport for emergency, off-air situations.

Documentation

In conjunction with the current contract engineer, create documentation for future use on all
technical set-ups at Carrolls Way and State Road, as well as any for any future builds.

Optimize and document configuration of streaming configs and backup for best performance and
up time. Work with webmaster. Ability to monitor and remotely repair connections when
webmaster is unavailable.

Emergency and Troubleshooting Work

Respond in a reasonable amount of time to remedy off-air situations, including providing remote
guidance for on-Island staff to resolve issues, or by traveling to the Island if local staff are not
able to resolve the problem. Resolving non-emergency technical issues as necessary

MVYRADIO MUSIC DIRECTOR & MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR POSITION

MVYRADIO has a unique opportunity for the right individual to join the station in its 40th year as an integral part of their team.

The following position is comprised of duties from what were previously part-time jobs, the combination of which adds up to a single standard 40 hour full-time job. We’d rather fill this position with a committed full time individual, than hire several part-timers. The duties require a wide range of skills. If you feel you possess the necessary ingredients, we’d like to hear from you.

The most important thing to note, is that MVYRADIO is located on Martha’s Vineyard. Living on an island is not for everyone, and before even applying we encourage you to consider if this location is right for you.

Position Requirements

At least 3 years’ experience of full-time employment at a commercial or noncommercial Triple A radio station. The candidate should have high familiarity with Triple A artists, old and new. At least some of that professional experience must include time in a Music Director position.

Though the position does NOT include a full-time airshift, some on-air experience is required. The candidate should have experience with ENCO or other automation system.

Experience with Selector or other music scheduling software is required.

The candidate should have some familiarity with navigating a CRM system like The Databank or Salesforce. They should have a high level of comfort managing Excel documents and will need strong organizations skills and attention to detail.

The position requires strong customer service skills, as you will be responding to listeners and donors via email and phone.

Position Duties

The position is split 50/50 between Music Director duties and Membership duties.

As Music Director you will:
-Set aside at least 2 hours per week to take phone calls from record promotions
-Meet weekly with the Program Director to help select weekly adds
-Report playlist to trades, email to promoters, email to jocks
-Host a weekly hour show of new releases, called “Uncharted Waters”
-Assist curating station Spotify lists
-Help organize and maintain the music library, including opening music mail
-Reconcile music logs in Selector
-Liaison with the local music promotors for joint events
-Occasionally book artists for MVY events
-Source free MP3 for bimonthly eblast to donors
-Attend some station events
-Assist in answering listener email questions

As Membership Coordinator you will:
-Process daily donations
-Approve and post donor Thank You names to website
-Work with our other Membership Coordinator on donor gift fulfillment, thank you postcards, etc
-Track premium inventory
-Answer phone calls and emails from donors with questions or issues, including credit card issues, and year-end tax receipts
-Do prep for Fund Drives, including liaison with our call center service, freshen scripts for jocks, coordinate website information with other Membership Coordinator. Airshift during Fund Drives
-Help source new premium gifts
-Other duties as assigned

DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT POSITION FOR MVYRADIO

This job is seasonal and part time.
- Employment dates: May 15 th through September 15 th
- Monday-Thursday (approximately 20-25 hours a week)

Responsibilities:

•Assist with summer fundraising events and activities: assisting with creatives,
organizing mass mailings and event invitations, progress updates and other event
projects as requested. Attending Event Committee meetings, taking detailed notes and
attending most events to assist in welcoming guests and other tasks.
•Gift Entry: Assist with donor gift acknowledgements by inputting and tracking gift
information into our database and running weekly reports.
•Annual Giving Support: Assisting with weekly donor correspondence, phone calls,
emailing, administrative support., etc. for the organization’s annual fundraising efforts.
•General Department Support: Assist in varied development office functions, grant and
donor research, and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will bring to the role:

• One-three years of experience in a fundraising environment
• Experience in using Data Bank, Raiser’s Edge NXT or another similar database
• Interest in growing a career in fundraising and development
